When Grant Veenstra wanted to gain muscle in high school to support his basketball dreams, he choked down one terrible protein shake after another. It didn’t take long before he asked a simple but powerful question: Why isn’t there a better-tasting way to fuel performance with protein? That question became the spark for Frozen Gains, a high-protein gelato company redefining what functional food can be.

Now a senior at Iowa State University, Grant credits much of his early success to CyStarts, the university’s startup incubator that provides young entrepreneurs with expert mentorship, a support network, and real-world accountability. Through the program, Grant refined his product, built connections, and learned what it takes to launch a business that can scale.
