Pneumero aims to revolutionize lung disease management by allowing patients to measure lung function at home, providing detailed data on lung volume and function that can be shared with healthcare providers. This technology addresses a significant gap in remote monitoring for lung diseases, which affect one in ten Americans and occupy 20% of hospital beds. Dr. Bates emphasizes the importance of proactive healthcare to prevent unnecessary hospital visits and improve patient outcomes.

Throughout the interview, Dr. Bates highlights the challenges and opportunities of transitioning from academia to entrepreneurship, the importance of customer discovery, and the impact of federal funding on innovation. She also shares insights into the supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem in Iowa and offers advice to aspiring entrepreneurs, stressing the value of data-driven decision-making and perseverance despite fear. The episode concludes with an invitation for listeners to connect with Dr. Bates through LinkedIn to learn more about her work and the MedTech industry.
