Micah double-majored in entrepreneurship and apparel merchandising and design, starting his own footwear company focused on eco-friendly shoes. He pursued a master’s in entrepreneurship to leverage university resources and further his business. During this time, Micah also ventured into consulting to understand the various facets of entrepreneurship.
Micah’s role at InnoVenture Iowa involves meeting founders and assessing investment opportunities. He emphasizes the importance of having a functional product and a strong team when pitching to venture capitalists. Micah highlights some companies he’s recommended for investment, such as Salem 247 and Tap on it, noting the importance of founder tenacity and innovation.
Micah discusses the differences he observes between Iowa’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, which leans towards AgTech, InsurTech, and MedTech, and broader ecosystems like California’s, which focus on renewable energy and other sectors. He reflects on his dual roles as a founder and VC analyst, balancing his entrepreneurial ambitions with his current career in venture capital.
