Hinterland Music Festival 2024 and Megan Hanson, VIP Lead for the event calls it “Kismet” that the Arts have always been a part of her life, her journey and her career.  Growing up in Des Moines, Hanson was an arts kid who danced, performed in theater productions and did all of the behind-the-scenes work.  She got “bit by the bug really early on”. She was a dancer when she was three and the “bug never went away.”

After stage managing at Wichita State University, she went to The Roundabout Theater in New York City and, as Hanson says, “In 2013 I fell in love with the business side of the theater!” From there onward, she allowed her passion to guide her in all of her career decisions and that passion never let her down.  The skillset Hanson developed in the Arts early on stayed with her and allowed her to stay involved in events and careers that she loved.  It even pushed her to attain a Master’s degree in Brand Communication during the pandemic.

Hanson never stopped using her management skills as she worked for Des Moines Does Things as a lead for private events from brunch clubs to tasting menus. This in turn led to her current role as Communication Project Support Specialist for Bravo of Greater Des Moines which was “always on her radar” as a theater kid.  But now, along with Bravo, Megan is proud to be on board with the Hinterland Music Festival for the first time as the VIP Lead.  She will be at the festival with 1.700 VIP ticket holders who will experience Hinterland in an exciting way on August 2nd through 4th in St. Charles, Iowa.

Megan is living proof that using your skillset can continue to push you forward in your passion.  “Sixteen year old me would be so proud of being in the arts administration world.”
