In a recent episode of the Iowa Tech podcast, host Micah Walker introduced listeners to Henry and Nikhil, co-founders of Casmium. This innovative baseball analytics app was developed by a group of five high school students, including Henry and Nikhil, who were keen to apply their computer science skills to a real-world problem.

The idea for Casmium originated when their high school baseball coach approached them with the need to digitize stats that were traditionally kept on paper. This project, which began as a school assignment, evolved into a promising venture during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the team realized its potential beyond the classroom.

Despite the challenges, such as balancing college with running a business, the team was driven by a shared entrepreneurial spirit. They utilized their technical skills to develop a product that could meaningfully impact high school sports programs. Throughout their journey, they received valuable support and mentorship from programs like JPEC at their respective universities, which helped them navigate the business side of their startup.

Casmium’s growth has been marked by both successes and learning experiences. The team expanded their technical capabilities, improved their product based on customer feedback, and refined their business strategies. Today, Casmium serves 20 customers, with an impressive retention rate of 80%.

Looking ahead, the team plans to attend the American Baseball Coaches Association conference and continue expanding their reach to more schools and sports teams across the Midwest and beyond. With upcoming product updates, they aim to further enhance the user experience and solidify their presence in the sports analytics market.
