15-min cranberry sauce
One of her favorite thanksgiving dishes is a fancy apple cranberry sauce made in 15 minutes. It requires fresh cranberries, apple cider, orange zest, and sugar. Easy ingredients anyone in Iowa can pick up at a moments notice.
Hands-on time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 15 minutes
Serves: 8
- 1 pound cranberries, fresh or frozen
- 1 cup apple cider
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar (packed)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
► In a saucepan, combine the cranberries, cider, and sugars. Simmer on medium heat until the cranberries begin to burst and the sauce thickens, 12 to 15 minutes.
STORAGE: You can refrigerate for up to 4 days.
TO SERVE: Serve chilled or at room temperature

Organization for next year
Vanessa emphasizes that documentation today and tomorrow is key to making next year a breeze. You won’t remember next year what needed more salt, or what ingredients to buy. So, you’ll have to do all the work over again. Instead, write everything down this year and make a plan with your family and assign dishes to lighten the mental load.
By creating a repeatable system with saved shopping lists, annotated recipes, and clearly assigned roles, Thanksgiving becomes less about last-minute chaos and more about enjoying the moment.
“Your family does not want you to be creative. They want you to make what you made last year and the year before that.”

“Just having this box of recipes that’s ready to go is really a game changer… This is fail proof. It will work every time.”
— Vanessa
“Now is the time to start documenting things… Talk to your loved ones and make a battle plan for next year.”
